Hormone Disrupting Water Contamination-Fracking

One of the greatest joys for those who want to start a family is to conceive a healthy baby. This natural course may be threatened by harmful chemicals that seep into drinking water during hydraulic fracturing for oil and gas or “fracking.” I direct a talented research team that recently found an association between fracking and hormone—or endocrine—disrupting activity. This type of disruption has been linked to infertility, birth defects, and cancer. Our first study found higher hormone disrupting activity in water at fracking sites and was published in Endocrinology, a top scientific journal, and featured on national news media.

Our goal is to test the association between fracking and hormone disrupting activity. Your donation will support field and laboratory work necessary to analyze the chemical composition of water at drilling sites. Thank you for investing in this important work, which is the first step in protecting the health of families and children.

Sincerely,

Susan C. Nagel, PhD, Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health
