Global Health Initiative: International Research Elective

The Global Health Initiative: International Research Elective MU-Zambia program provides two outstanding students from medical schools in Zambia – Lusaka Apex Medical University (LAMU) and Copperbelt University School of Medicine (CBU SOM) – the opportunity to research under an MU School of Medicine faculty mentor over the course of one summer.

Students will learn the latest research techniques and be exposed to new research experiences, enhancing their skills to better advance worldwide health initiatives. After being immersed in research activities, ethics education, career workshops for their chosen field, and discussions with Mizzou medical school students and faculty, they will conclude the program with a poster presentation.

Your gift will financially support the program. Students will receive on-campus housing, meals, one hour of academic/research credit, travel to and from Columbia, and a stipend of $1,500.

We seek your generous support to positively contribute towards improving medical education for the Zambian students. Over the years, all students who return to Zambia will have a resounding academic effect on their peers and the health of their fellow Zambians. After the internship, they will have the opportunity to maintain collaboration with their research mentors.  This partnership is an excellent opportunity for exchange of students in other programs and faculty between all three institutions to improve medical education, research, patient-care and institution diversity.
