Dr. Stephen E. Mudrick’s research concerned synoptic scale and large-scale atmospheric dynamics. His research was supported by the National Science Foundation, NASA, and Air Force Geophysics Laboratory. He created a numerical model of baroclinic instability and published a paper on the topic that is well-regarded across our discipline. Dr. Mudrick served the department as curator of the weather forecast laboratory, which became the Weather Analysis and Visualization (WAV) Lab. Dr. Mudrick taught synoptic and dynamic meteorology exclusively for many years before finally retiring in 2000. Scholarships will be given to students who demonstrate the ability to mentor other students and grow as a professional.
