This award will be presented annually in memory of Emily Ariel Bamberger who entered the MU School of Medicine with the class of 2018 and passed away due to refractory depression and suicide in 2017. Emily, though repeatedly hospitalized due to her own struggle with asthma, remained interested and attentive to the challenges and experiences of her classmates. By recognizing a graduating Med School senior who embodies the values of compassion and self-sacrificial concern for others, we aim to honor Emily’s legacy of people-centeredness. Each year, the Emily Ariel Bamberger Award for Compassion will be presented at the Honors Convocation, and the recipient’s name will be added to a plaque displayed in the School of Medicine to encourage our community to be one that has ever-increasing concern for each other.
