Scott Winans Thelen Memorial Scholarship

Family and friends of Scott W. Thelen have worked with university officials to establish this fund to provide scholarship awards to students in the Crosby MBA program at the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business at the University of Missouri.

Scott was born and raised in Columbia, MO, the son of Jeff and Marla Thelen. He attended Columbia Public Schools and graduated from Hickman High School in 2006. Scott attended the University of Missouri and in 2010, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In 2012, Scott obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the Crosby MBA program and received the award for top MBA Finance student of his graduating class.

Scott was the team leader for a group of graduate finance students from the University of Missouri Trulaske College of Business team that won the CFA Institute Research Challenge in St. Louis in 2012. That win qualified the MU team to advance to the Americas Regional Challenge in New York to compete against other universities from the United States, Canada and South America.

Scott previously worked at Edward Jones in St. Louis and was recently working towards a PhD. in finance at the University of Iowa. Scott loved fishing and sports, especially Missouri Tiger basketball. He also loved the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan and enjoyed salmon fishing excursions on the big lake with his family and friends. Scott enjoyed reading and was always quick to offer investment advice. He enjoyed regular group chats with childhood friends he dearly cared about and loved.

Scott was never happier than during his time in the MBA program. He enjoyed participating in activities that would help him learn, meet new friends, and enhance future professional development. We know Scott would encourage recipients of the scholarship to work hard but also to enjoy their time in the Crosby MBA program. Scott would also encourage recipients to cultivate friendships by participating in both university and community activities.

This scholarship will be awarded to passionate full-time students, who are pursuing a MBA through the  Crosby MBA program, share Scott's commitment to academic excellence, to be involved in both university and local communities, and his intense spirt and care he showed for his family, friends, and colleagues.

Please join us in honoring Scott and helping deserving students by contributing a gift to the Scott Winans Thelen Memorial Scholarship Fund. Thank you.
