John Charles Willett, BS '95 economics, was appointed treasurer of Taney County by then-Governor Mel Carnahan when he was 23, making him the youngest treasurer in Missouri. He later worked at a subsidiary of Cantor Fitzgerald, a financial services firm. His office was on the 101st floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center where he died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attack.
Gifts from Willett's family and friends were used to establish this endowed scholarship in his memory to provide awards to economics students. Award recipients are encouraged to participate in a mentoring program for other students, especially minority students, both while at MU and after completing their degrees. Please consider making a gift in remembrance of John. For questions regarding gifts of stock or other types of giving, please contact the Arts & Science Development Office at 573-882-4421. All contributions count toward membership in the Jefferson Club.
