The Star Fund is named in honor of a mare that was donated to the university in 1988. Lameness precluded her from becoming a show horse and because of her easygoing personality, Star was incorporated into a special herd of horses chosen for their teaching potential. In her role as matriarch of the teaching herd, Star lived with us for more than 25 years and watched 1,919 DVM students learn about horses. This fund will pay tribute to Star’s memory and legacy of teaching, helping clients in financial need defray the costs of procedures and providing valuable teaching experience for students. Teaching the next generations of veterinarians is what we do here at the MU Equine Hospital, and we could not do it without horses like Star. Please give in her memory and in honor of all the students who care for our equine patients on their journey through life.
