The James Whitacre Compassionate Care Award is in memory of MU respiratory therapy’s founding program director. Mr. Whitacre was not only a pioneer at Mizzou but also for the profession of respiratory care, serving as the first editor of the professions research journal and writing some of the first RT textbooks. During a fall 2014 visit to campus Mr. Whitacre spoke to the power of the personal touch by stating, “You do as much therapy with your presence as you do with your equipment.” This award will be given to the student that most exemplifies compassionate care toward patients. Currently we are able to award a $500 scholarship on an annual basis. Please join us as we raise funds to continue to award this scholarship on an annual basis.
