Dr. Wayne Decker’s legacy to atmospheric sciences is primarily through his work in bio-meteorology, climatology, and long-range forecasting. Dr. Decker founded Atmospheric Science at the University of Missouri in 1948. Dr. Decker also served as the University administrator (Director) for the NOAA cooperative climate program; Cooperative Institute of Applied Meteorology (CIAM). He had payroll responsibilities for the employees paid from University accounts. He also was responsible for recruiting qualified professionals and support staff. Dr. Decker was also involved in the technical aspects of the cooperative effort. He was an advisor to the staff in manners concerning climatology. Dr. Wayne Decker is also a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. Scholarships will be given to accomplished students with financial need.
