The Steve Walli Memorial Fund has been set up in memory of Steve and will support students in the Center for Sales and Customer Development Program. Steve served as the Chief Executive Officer for UnitedHealthcare’s Employer and Individual business in the Heartland States. This area served over 3.4 million people in Missouri, Central/Southern Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota.
A Columbia, Missouri native Steve attended Rockbridge High School and in 2013 was inducted into the Rockbridge High School Hall of Fame. He then attended the University of Missouri from 1978 to 1982 where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Marketing, and then started working in sales at MetLife in St. Louis.
In June of 1983, Steve and his wife Penny were married and moved to Houston, Texas. He began working for UnitedHealthcare in 1995 after they acquired MetLife. He worked for UnitedHealthcare in Houston nearly 20 years and became the CEO of the Houston office. Steve and his family moved back to St. Louis in 2004 where Steve served as the CEO of the Heartland States. He was a cornerstone of his community and participated in numerous business and community organizations including serving on the boards of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Gateway Area Chapter, American Heart Association-Metro St. Louis, Board of the Regional Business Council, the Midwest Health Initiative and the St. Louis Sports Commission Board. He was named as one of the Most Influential St. Louisans from 2007 through 2012 by the St. Louis Business Journal.
Steve had a passion for playing golf and the Missouri Tigers where he could be seen tailgating every home football game.
Most importantly he was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a beloved friend and colleague.
