Veterinary Research Scholars Program

Veterinarians, with their broad knowledge of animal biology, have a unique potential to contribute to numerous scientific disciplines impacting both animal and human health. Unfortunately, there is a critical shortage of veterinarians that pursue research-oriented careers. It is crucial that veterinary colleges aggressively address this shortage by exposing veterinary students to research careers and affording them opportunities to explore hypothesis-driven research. The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine (MU CVM) is uniquely situated to address this shortage by virtue of its strong existing biomedical research and training environment.

The MU CVM’s Veterinary Research Scholars Program (MU VRSP) is seeking support. Our program provides a mentored research experience, exposure to research career opportunities, and develops a much-needed community of veterinary research scientists. Our goal is to support as many students as possible who wish to explore research and research career opportunities. Unfortunately, this goal has become more challenging each year as traditional funding sources are lost due to budget constraints. That’s where you come in. Please help us support the recruitment and development of the next generation of outstanding veterinary scientists. Contributions will be used to support student scholarships and travel to an annual, national symposium, where the students present their research to peers participating in the same program at other veterinary schools. Thank you for your support!
