Hispanics in the United States account for roughly 18% of the population, but only 7% of the STEM workforce in the United States. SHPE Mizzou is a collegiate chapter under the SHPE National non-profit organization whose mission is to "change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development." Through its structure and generous support from renowned sponsors, SHPE provides exemplary services to its members, bridging the gap between Hispanics and STEM. Some programs are ScholarSHPE, InternSHPE, Noche de Ciencias for K-12 students, Equipando Padres for parents of first-generation college students, and more. As a leading university in the field of engineering, the University of Missouri, Columbia (Mizzou) is one of these growing chapters located in Region VI. We strive to uphold the mission, vision, and values of SHPE, united in our heritage and studies.
