The West Central Veterinary Medical Association, in collaboration with the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, has put together a scholarship in memory of Dana Gillig, DVM.
Dr. Gillig was a 1998 graduate of the MU CVM. As a mixed animal practitioner in Sedalia, Missouri, she helped pave the way for female practitioners in large animal veterinary medicine. Dr. Gillig was an active member of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association serving in various positions throughout her career, including as president in 2011. She was honored as the MVMA’s Missouri Veterinarian of the Year in 2014 becoming the first female veterinarian to receive the coveted award. In addition, Dr. Gillig was a past president of the West Central Veterinary Medical Association and a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, Society of Theriogenology, and the Academy of Rural Veterinarians. Dr. Gillig also served as the Missouri State Fair veterinarian and a veterinary science project leader for the Pettis County and Jackson County chapters of 4-H for many years. After a lengthy battle with necrotizing pancreatitis, Dr. Gillig succumbed to the disease in April of 2023. You can read more about Dr. Gillig here.
Please consider honoring Dr. Dana Gillig and helping a fourth-year MU CVM student who plans to enter a large or mixed animal veterinary practice.
