Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is a club open to all engineers who have an interest in manufacturing. Manufacturing is a part of engineering that is difficult to learn in the classroom. This fund will help SME purchase materials for our semester projects and help cover travel costs for our factory tours. Every year, we travel to the SEC Machining Competition where we compete against other schools in the SEC. This competition is a great way for students to get hands-on experience with equipment that isn’t used in labs at the University. SME also gets students more experience with CAD and CAM software, as students are designing and manufacturing their own parts. Aside from hands-on learning, we also invite industry professionals to share their manufacturing experience. This gives students an opportunity to ask questions they might have about the industry.
