The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) University of Missouri Chapter is a new and growing organization at MU, rooted in uplifting Hispanic and Latine students and professionals in the journalism industry. Mizzou NAHJ has been fully functioning as a student organization since 2021, and officially became a student chapter of the national NAHJ in 2023. Membership is growing with each new year. NAHJ has taken the first of many media trips to come, regularly has guest speakers and facilitate collaborative events across the Mid-Missouri community. Guest speakers have consisted of people from NPR, the Kansas City Media Collective, The Fresno Bee and more. Our group works closely with De Veras, a bilingual Spanish and English media outlet. De Veras was pioneered by Mizzou NAHJ’s members last year, and the project was awarded $10,000 in the RJI Student Innovation Competition. Mizzou NAHJ is in partnership with La Voz Latina, a radio show with KOPN FM. We aim to provide news to the Mid-Missouri community in Spanish and English, and with our deep understanding and knowledge of our culture in the area.
One of our main goals is to attend the annual NAHJ National Conference and provide support for students to attend the conference. We greatly appreciate any financial contributions to make attending the annual conference a reality for our membership. Thank you in advance for your donations to our Mizzou NAHJ familia!
