Canine DM is a devastating disease causing paralysis which affects many dogs of different pure and mixed breeds. Canine DM has many similarities to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). DM research is likely to aid in research for human ALS. Currently there are no effective treatments for DM or ALS, both diseases are progressive and ultimately fatal. It is essential to conduct further research to understand the underlying mechanisms causing these diseases. We are trying to find ways to follow disease progression in DM and need biological measures. Funds to be used to cover expenses and overhead related to discovery efforts and maintaining a tissue archive for future studies pertaining to degenerative myelopathy.
