The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at MU Extension, in partnership with the IRS, helps low-and-moderate-income people file their federal and state income tax returns, increase financial capability, and connect to vital financial and human service resources.
Our volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, serve thousands of Kansas City area families each year with high-quality, accurate return preparation and financial education focused on practical strategies to increase savings, reduce debt, and improve credit. This past year we helped more than 3,000 households access critical COVID-19 relief funds, tax credits for families with children, and rent and property tax rebates for older adults and people with disabilities.
