ALS Research Fund

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle paralysis. There is no cure or treatment to halt its progression and often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. The University of Missouri is home to an ALS Certified Treatment Center of Excellence, and we are committed to enrolling our patients in clinical trials that test promising new treatments. Our commitment to fighting the disease extends to the laboratory, where our scientists are seeking ways to slow the progression of ALS and contribute to ultimately finding a cure.
