In late 2020, Dr. Mark McIntosh announced his retirement after nearly 40 years at Mizzou. Your generous contribution will ensure that we dedicate a legacy tree on MU’s campus in his honor.
As the administrator of research at MU, McIntosh has been integral to the success of Mizzou’s challenge of doubling its research expenditures as well as the launch of the NextGen Institute, the UM System’s number one capital priority. This multidisciplinary facility will position the System and MU as a global leader in precision medicine, a revolutionary approach to disease treatment that delivers customized patient care based on an individual’s genes, environment and lifestyle.
McIntosh is nationally recognized for his work on iron transport in bacteria and his grounding in top-level basic science gave him a strong foundation and critical outlook to inform and support his work in the development of science and scientists at MU. His leadership experience includes chairing the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology in the MU School of Medicine, where his vision involved establishing interdisciplinary collaborations with virology, immunology and pathology and forming alliances with the MU College of Veterinary Medicine.
We hope you’ll consider a gift to this fund in honor of Dr. McIntosh’s extraordinary work at Mizzou.
